What each Kova certification level means, what’s assessed and how we keep it fair. It’s published so anyone relying on a Kova certificate knows exactly what it stands for.
The four levels
Each level builds on the one below. Holding a higher level means you also meet the lower ones in that area.

Knows the basics: how things work, the rules that apply and where to get help.
A holder can
Explains the key ideas and terms in their own words
Handles routine situations with a guide to hand
Knows when a problem is beyond them and who to pass it to
How it’s assessed
Lessons and a timed final exam.
Associate
Staff doing the work day to day.
Works on their own: applies the process correctly without supervision.
A holder can
Handles everyday cases start to finish without help
Follows the process even when it’s inconvenient
Escalates the right things to the right people, quickly
How it’s assessed

Explains the reasoning behind a decision
Coaches and checks the work of others
How it’s assessed
Lessons, a timed final exam and a practical assessment marked by an assessor.
Expert
Department leads and above.
Leads an area: sets the standard, reviews others and improves the process.
A holder can
Handles the most difficult and high-stakes cases
Reviews others’ work against the standard and gives useful feedback
Spots gaps in a process and fixes them
How it’s assessed
Lessons, a timed final exam and a practical assessment marked by an assessor.

How assessment works
Lessons. Each course is a set of short lessons with practice questions. Practice answers are explained and never count.
Final exam. Once every lesson is done, the learner sits a timed multiple-choice exam. Scores are shown by topic so people know what to work on, but not which answers were right.
Practical (Professional and Expert). After passing the exam, the learner hands in real work, such as replies to example cases, or has a short call. An assessor marks it against a written guide. If it isn’t a pass, they get feedback and can hand it in again without re-sitting the exam.
Certificate. When everything is passed, Kova issues a signed certificate and the holder gets it by Discord DM, with a PDF to download.
Keeping it fair
A different paper for everyone
Each exam is drawn at random from a larger bank of questions and the answers are shuffled, so answers passed around don’t help much.
Answers never leave the server
Your browser only ever gets the questions. Marking happens on Kova’s servers, and nobody is shown which answers were right.
Timed, with a wait to retake
The timer runs on the server and keeps going if the page is closed. Failing means waiting before trying again, so you can’t guess your way through.
Leaving the exam is recorded
Switching away from the exam tab is counted and shown to Kova’s reviewers alongside the result.
No marking your own homework
People who wrote or edited a course can’t sit its exam, and assessors can’t mark their own practical.
Questions are refreshed
Question banks are reviewed and some questions replaced every few months, so the exam stays current and hard to memorise.
Lessons first
The exam only unlocks once every lesson in the course has been completed.
A person checks the senior levels
Professional and Expert certifications include a practical assessment marked by an assessor against a written guide.
Certificates
Tied to a Roblox account. Certificates name the holder’s Roblox account, so you can see exactly who earned it. Names update from Roblox automatically; the Roblox ID never changes.
Signed by Kova. Every certificate is signed with an Ed25519 key that only Kova holds. If a record were changed, its signature would stop matching and the verify page would say so.
Checkable by anyone. Enter the credential ID at kovahub.org/certificates, scan the QR code on the PDF, or use the API: GET https://kovahub.org/api/certificates/<id>. Public keys are at /api/certificates/keys.
Expiry and renewal. Most certifications last a set time, shown above. Holders can renew in the last 60 days by passing the exam again (and the practical, for senior levels).
Revocation. Kova can revoke a certificate, for example if it was obtained dishonestly. Its verify page then shows it as revoked, immediately.
The numbers
Live from Kova’s records. Pass rates only appear once a level has had at least ten exams.

What it doesn’t mean
A Kova certificate shows the holder was assessed by Kova against this standard, on Kova’s material. It isn’t a government, academic or industry-accredited qualification, and it doesn’t make the holder a Kova employee or representative. If you’re relying on one, check it’s valid on its verify page and judge it alongside everything else you know about the person.
